Live Lecture

Open /camp/live-lecture, hit record, and Studycamp writes a live transcript and structured notes while the class is happening. When you stop, the lecture is ready for chat, quizzes and flashcards straight away.

How to use it

  1. Go to /camp/live-lecture. You can also start it from the Voice Recorder page, from Notes (new, then Record a lecture), or from the recordings widget on a course page, which picks that course for you.
  2. Pick the course. If your calendar has a class on right now, it’s already picked. Your recent courses are one tap away.
  3. Choose the lecture language, the language you want notes in, and Detailed or Short notes.
  4. Hit Start recording and allow microphone access.
  5. Hit Stop when class ends. Studycamp finishes the last notes, files the lecture and gets it ready to study.

What you should see

  • Left: the timer, a waveform, pause and stop, and the transcript. Gray text is a quick preview from your browser; it’s replaced by the accurate transcript a few seconds later.
  • Right: your notes. About once a minute a new section appears: headings, bullet points, key terms in bold, and a highlighted line when the lecturer says something is important or on the exam. You can type in the notes while they’re being written.
  • After you stop: buttons to Ask about it, Quiz me, Flashcards, Make summary, quiz and flashcards in one go, and Podcast recap (Pro). Study all lectures in a course puts every lecture from that course into one study session, which is handy before an exam.

Good to know

  • You can leave the page. Recording keeps going while you use the rest of Studycamp. A small bar in the corner shows the timer with pause and stop.
  • Don’t close the tab. Studycamp warns you if you try. If the tab closes anyway, everything recorded up to that point is kept. Open Studycamp again and choose Keep recording or Finish it. If you never come back, the lecture finishes on its own after 20 minutes (3 hours if it was paused).
  • Bad Wi-Fi is fine. Audio is saved on your device and uploads when the connection returns.
  • Silence is free. Quiet stretches aren’t uploaded or counted. After 10 quiet minutes the recording pauses itself, in case you forgot to stop.
  • Stopped too early? Open the lecture and hit Continue recording. It goes into the same notes.
  • One lecture at a time. You can’t run a live lecture and the Voice Recorder together, or two lectures on two devices.
  • Where it’s filed: each course gets a Lectures folder in Notes, and every lecture of that course goes in there. If you didn’t pick a course, Studycamp guesses it from the first few minutes and asks you to confirm. It’s filed automatically if the match is clear.
  • Notes in your language: the lecture can be in one language and the notes in another.
  • Notes build on each other: Studycamp knows what the previous lecture of the same course covered, so it links back to it instead of repeating it.
  • Phones: keep the screen on and the browser open. Phones pause the microphone when the browser goes to the background.
  • The instant gray preview uses your browser’s built-in speech recognition, and only where the browser supports it. The accurate transcript doesn’t depend on it.

Limits and costs

Live lectures are counted in minutes, not credits. The notes are included.

Minutes reset with your credits. When a Free account runs out mid-lecture, recording stops, and everything captured so far is saved and finished. Unlimited plans have a fair use limit far above what a full course load uses.

The study tools you run afterwards (quiz, flashcards, summary, podcast) cost their normal credits. See Usage Limits.

If it doesn’t work

“Microphone blocked”: allow microphone access for studycamp.app in your browser’s site settings, then start again.

The transcript says a part couldn’t be transcribed: that part is kept and retried when you stop. If the lecture still shows an error afterwards, open it and hit Try again.

Notes lag behind the transcript: notes are written about once a minute, and they catch up when you stop.

The study buttons say it’s still being prepared: the transcript is being indexed for studying. It usually takes under a minute after you stop.

“You already have a lecture recording”: another tab or device has a lecture open. Finish that one first, or open it from the banner and keep recording there.
